Challenge

The City of Maple Grove is working diligently to improve their carbon footprint, reduce their energy usage, and tackle some deferred maintenance that would enhance the experience for their citizens in their public use facilities. Over the last year, the City has worked with Apex and completed several sustainability efforts that will save the City money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions now and into the future.

Our Solution

One of the sustainability efforts completed was the installation of over one megawatt of solar panels on city-owned buildings. This is one of the largest city-owned installations in the entire state! Some of the buildings are expected to generate more solar energy during the year than they use - making them net zero energy buildings. Some of the other efficiency efforts throughout the City include:

  • New building lighting and street lights installed.

  • Buildings and ducts have been sealed.

  • HVAC Systems and controls have been upgraded and set.

  • New Low-E ceilings have been installed above the ice rinks.

  • Roof replacements and ventilation improvements were made to a number of buildings.

Final Result

Work was completed in over 20 buildings throughout the City over a nine month span. The City of Maple Grove is expected to save about $350,000 annually and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions the equivalent of the energy use of 1,500 homes.

PROJECT NUMBERS:

  • Total Project Savings:  $348,650 Annually
