Forest Lake Area School District Energy Project
Challenge
The Forest Lake Area Schools had a pool ventilation unit that was failing and needed to be replaced at their Southwest Junior High School. The natatorium was not being supplied with enough outside air so the pool environment was uncomfortable for students, athletes and staff.
Our Solution
They called Apex to evaluate the pool ventilation unit and to provide solutions. Apex conducted an audit of their buildings and analyzed different solutions for the natatorium. Apex was able to combine an LED lighting retrofit with the installation of a high efficiency pool ventilation unit so that the entire project was funded through the energy savings.
Final Result
The final project had savings that exceeded the project financing costs, which meant that the District realized a net profit by combining the LED lighting project with the natatorium ventilation project. The District not only addressed their deferred maintenance issue and got that paid by energy savings, over a 20 year project timeframe, they saved an extra $1 Million, resulting in a positive impact to the taxpayers and the District’s operating budget.
