City of Woodbury - M Health Fairview Sports Center

Challenge

The City of Woodbury needed to upgrade the M Health Fairview Sports Center in a few different areas. This facility includes two indoor ice sheets and one outdoor, refrigerated pleasure rink. The West and East indoor rinks, were both opened in 1995. The West rink operated with a sand floor while the East rink had a concrete floor. Both arenas needed lighting improvements. The goal of this project was to upgrade the two indoor rinks with up to date technologies in both the floors and over the rinks surface.

Our Solution

We removed the outdated piping in the West rink and replaced with all new piping including new mains and headers, then covered with insulation and concrete for a more efficient and level floor to make ice. We also replaced the lighting over both indoor rinks with an efficient and effective LED lighting solution. This included better controls of the LED lights with three levels of lighting and new occupancy sensors installed throughout the facility.

Final Result

Woodbury has drastically improved the skating quality of their ice rink by replacing their existing sand floor with a new, NHL sized, concrete rink. This new rink will be used year-round and has improved their customer experience and flexibility of their scheduling. The final project resulted in annual savings of almost $75,000 for the City of Woodbury.
